Hosting Fonts Locally in WordPress for Genesis

Last Updated on September 5, 2019 Favorited: 0 times

This tutorial provides the steps to host premium fonts and Google Fonts locally in WordPress in any theme and not limited to Genesis Framework. It will work on any WordPress theme without any issue.

The @font-face rule in a stylesheet file (i.e style.css) allows fonts to be loaded on a webpage. Once this rule is added in the stylesheet, It instructs the browser to download the font from where it is hosted, then display it as specified in the CSS.

Can I use?

Here are the following font formats that work on different Browsers.

  • Embedded OpenType (.eot) for Internet Explorer
  • Web Open Font Format 2 (.woff2) for Super modern browsers
  • Web Open Font Format (.woff) for all modern browsers
  • True Type (.ttf) for Safari, Android, and iOS
  • Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg) for Legacy iOS

I recommended you to use at least two formats .woff and .woff2 for best Modern Browser Support.
Support for .woff can be checked at http://caniuse.com/woff
Support for .woff2 can be checked at http://caniuse.com/woff2
