Categories Vs. Tags in WordPress

Last Updated on April 22, 2018 Favorited: 0 times

Categories and Tags are the best options available to sort your contents in a simple way. Both Categories and Tags have their own benefits and work as a filter machine for your posts.

It makes easy to find related contents of the similar topic without checking all the hundreds of posts.

Categories are used as broad grouping of post contents in a manner which
defines what is your site about.

Tags are meant to describe specific details of posts. Tags are similar to Categories but act as a micro-data to provide additional information about the particular post.

Categories vs Tags

Let’s assume you have a food blog. A recipe blog generally contains two categories of foods vegetarian and non-vegetarian foods. But You can create sub-categories like Cakes, Chickens, Paneer and more…

How the Tags work here?
You can add specific tag according to your post. It could be ‘sweet’, ‘spicy’, ‘desert’ and more of your choice.

This makes clear that a post is from a specific category is sweet or spicy or a desert. This makes a user easy to find a special recipe of their choice.

Let me know if you are still confused between Categories and Tags.
